What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a healthcare profession that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractors use a hands-on approach to spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments to alleviate pain and improve the function of the body's nervous and musculoskeletal systems.

In Florida, chiropractors are licensed and regulated by the Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine. To become a licensed chiropractor in Florida, one must complete a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from an accredited chiropractic college, pass the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners exam, and pass the state jurisprudence exam. Chiropractors in Florida are also required to complete continuing education courses to maintain their licensure.

What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

A Chiropractic Adjustment, also known as spinal manipulation, is a common therapeutic procedure performed by chiropractors to treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those affecting the spine.

During a chiropractic adjustment, the chiropractor applies a controlled, high velocity-low amplitude thrust, typically using their hands or instrument. This force is intended to improve joint mobility, reduce pain, and improve overall function.

The goal of a chiropractic adjustment is to restore proper alignment and mobility to the joints of the spine, which can help to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and improve nerve function. Chiropractic adjustments may be used to treat conditions such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, and joint pain.

Chiropractic adjustments are considered safe and effective for many patients. However, they may not be appropriate for everyone. Consult with Dr. Schiermyer to determine if chiropractic treatment is right for you.
